Student council values

Consistency in character

Character is the aim of true education; and science, history, and literature are but means used to accomplish this desired end. Character is not the result of chance, but of continuous right thinking, and right acting. True education seeks to make men and women good mathematicians, proficient linguists, profound scientists, or brilliant literary lights, but also, honest men, with virtue, temperance, and brotherly love. It seeks to make men and women who prize truth, justice, wisdom, benevolence, and self-control as the choicest acquisitions of a successful life.”
-David O. McKay

In accordance with the teachings of President David O. McKay, we are shining examples of solid character and impeccable integrity. As future educators ourselves, we will demonstrate the benefits of true education and its effects on our own character by being honest in our word, noble in our thoughts, and constant in our actions.

Passion for pedagogy

"There are three things which must guide all teachers: first get into the subject; second, get that subject into you; third, try to lead your pupils to get the subject into them--not pouring it into them, but leading them to see what you see, to know what you know, to feel what you feel."
-David O. McKay

Following the admonition of the Master Teacher, we are passionate advocates of inspiring truth and light in our fellow man. We will pursue the principles and practices of effective pedagogy with fire in our hearts in order to prepare ourselves for the noble calling of being teachers and leaders in the home, in the classroom, in the church, and in the world.

Enthusiasm for involvement

"...Gaining knowledge is one thing, and applying it is another.”
-David O. McKay

Motivated by gratitude and by a sacred stewardship as BYU students, we are “doers of the word, and not hearers only.” We are excited and anxious to get involved within our own School and the University in general. We will be proactive in applying the principles of our education through service to our fellow man, and charity in our social interactions. Through this application, we will be accomplishing the 4 inspired “Aims of a BYU Education,” achieving balance in our lives, and developing our whole potential for growth and fulfillment while at this University.

Synergy in service

As these three attributes are united in our hearts and focused by an eye single to the glory of God, we will find power, peace, and productivity in the realization of our ultimate goal and destiny- that of truly becoming like the Master Teacher.
